Firefighters Honor Breast Cancer Victim

Fire department is selling the shirts to remember the daughter of one of its members, who died recently from breast cancer.

The is selling pink breast cancer awareness shirts to remember a member’s daughter who died recently from the disease.

Fire Chief Bill Chilleo said the shirts are a way to honor Amy Sharp-Holeva while also raising money for breast cancer awareness.

Sharp-Holeva, whose mother is currently in the fire department’s ladies auxiliary, died from breast cancer in June, Chilleo said.

“A couple guys talked about it and then one thing led to another,” Chilleo said. “The membership thought it was a great idea.”

Chilleo said Sharp-Holeva’s mother, Kathleen, was “beside herself” when she first saw the shirts.

“She didn’t even know we did this,” he said. “She was at a loss for words. She was just ecstatic of what we did.”

The shirts are $15 and can be purchased by calling at 412-221-1711. Chilleo said all of the proceeds from the shirts will be donated to major breast cancer foundations.

He added that anyone who wears the shirt during will receive $5 off their admission. That has created a sea of pink to swell inside the fire hall each Monday night.

“You should see these shirts all over the place,” Chilleo said. “It’s starting to take off real nicely.”
