A Caring Senior Project

Nicole Lapia's senior project was the First Annual Blue Out Basketball Game

Every year at Chartiers Valley, each member of the senior class is required to complete a Senior Project. This project allows the student to explore their interests and prepare for the real world. Some seniors simply elect to learn a new skill as their Senior Project; but there are a lot of individuals who have the desire to make an impact on a life other than their own. Nicole Lapia exemplifies this category perfectly.

She has been a devoted student council member since her freshman year in high school, currently occupying the co-president position. Throughout her years in student council, she has been involved with the Highmark Caring Place. So when senior year came around, Nicole devised the plan to create a senior project idea that would benefit this foundation. Since she is also a manager for the boys’ basketball team at CV, she thought it would be ideal to mold these two commitments into a unique senior project.

Nicole is responsible for originating the First Annual Blue Out Basketball Game on Dec. 22 when Chartiers Valley played Upper Saint Clair. Shirts were on sale in the CV cafeteria during all lunch periods starting and all money made from this event will benefit the Highmark Caring Foundation; which brings awareness to children suffering from grief.

In addition to cool t shirts and an exciting basketball match-up, Nicole had various auction baskets available at the game. They included a Steelers basket with an autographed football; a Penguins basket including 2 tickets with access to the First Niagra Club; a tanning basket worth $75; a movie basket with 8 free passes to any Destinta Theatre; and finally a nails and spa basket worth $120.
