Rocky's Legendary Fish Reels in Customers

Generous fish fry portions and taste offer more bang for the buck.

With Lenten season winding down and Good Friday just days away, you’re likely in the market for a great fish sandwich.

If you’ve exhausted all the church basements and fire halls in the area, or are simply looking for something new and delicious, Rocky’s at 1201 Washington Ave. in Scott Township is the place for you.

I’ve heard the buzz about Rocky’s for years. My father-in-law is a frequent lunch customer and often reads the news while he enjoys what he describes as the best fish sandwich around.

He and other patrons line the bar-restaurant during lunch and dinner – the business’ peak hours – while owner Rocky Zargari can often be found cooking. On Fridays during the Lenten season, lines stretch out the door while customers wait for a table.

At first sight, the fish sandwich is a little intimidating. Three large pieces of crispy fish are piled high onto a soft bun. Fries are included before 3 p.m., but you won’t need them. The savory dichotomy of the crusty fish and chewy bun, along with the large portion size, leave you feeling fulfilled and, well, full.

The light, crunchy breading flavors the tender fish without overwhelming it or leaving trails of grease behind. That combination is why I loved it, and I now agree with my father-in-law’s assessment: Rocky’s has the best fish sandwich around.

Depending on the order, the cost of a fish sandwich ranges from $8.85 to $9.75, which puts it on par with most fish fries in the region.

For those guests looking for a simple, delicious fish sandwich that isn’t dressed up with sides, a roll or desserts, Rocky’s is the perfect choice. The fish is so good it doesn’t need accessories. Plus, you’ll be so full you wont want them.

But you will want to go back, and unlike the seasonal fish fries, Rocky’s serves fish year round!

I had heard about Rocky's fish sandwiches for years. But it wasn't until this year that I tried one. Pretty darn good.

Rocky's serves the best fish sandwich in the South Hills area hands down. Highly recommended.
