Proposed South Hills Whole Foods One Step Closer to Reality

A public hearing on the development will be held in August in Upper St. Clair.

The arrival of a large, mixed-use development on the corner of Fort Couch and Washington roads became more realistic on Thursday night when the Upper St. Clair Planning Commission formally recommended approval of the proposed development to the township's commissioners.

The commissioners will now hold a public hearing on the topic of the development—which would replace the former CONSOL Energy headquarters with, among other things, a Whole Foods Market and some residential space—during its Aug. 5 meeting.

After the Aug. 5 public hearing—which could be continued over multiple commissioners meetings, according to Scott Brillhart, Upper St. Clair's director of community development—the commissioners will decide whether or not to accept the planning commission's recommendation.
