Local Salon's Success Story Is A Family Legacy

Jerry's Coiffures in Bridgeville lasts the test of time

Nestled in Bridgeville is a beauty salon that's weathered and triumphed over the test of time.  has made its home at 527 Station St. for nearly 50 years and been owned and operated by the same man, Jerry Crocce. He attributes the salon's success to the values he has lived by, and to his family's dedication.

Crocce came to America at the age of 19, immigrating from Southern Italy and made Bridgeville his home. He began his life here living with extended family while learning English and furthering his education in hair design. Restarting his life here was not easy but he had a can do attitude and genuine outgoing personality, which is still a fundamental part of his personality all these years later.

Crocce began his professional career by studying in New York. He returned then to Bridgeville as one of the area's first male stylists trained to do women's hair. He opened his salon on Station Street in 1962.

His daughter, Lisa Cersosimo, who also is a stylist at the salon, spoke of the changing fashions, the salon's ability to modify couture styles so that they are relevant to the tastes and needs of people in our area, and the importance of keeping educated on innovations and products. They shared stories of how their family grew closer through their hard work and committment. They lamented about how customers watched the Crocce girls grow up and now, in turn, they watch their clients' children and grandchildren grow.

"I remember Spaghetti and Salon Cleaning," she said, "We'd all have dinner together after closing, then return to get things ready for the next work day. My grandparents came here from Italy in their sixties. He (her grandfather) could be seen pushing the broom and getting every bit of hair as my father cut it. We all just did what needed done."
