Area is a Coffee Shop Hot Spot

Tiny borough offers a number of good locally owned coffee shops.

Phrases like Grande Café Mocha, Café au lait, tall, skinny and skim have infiltrated the vocabulary of coffee lovers.

It’s estimated that nearly 30 million Americans have at least 2 to 3 cups to kick-start their day, and this includes espressos and specialty drinks. Starbucks has good blends and is one of the more nationally recognized coffee-houses, but I find that the local cafés in Bridgeville offer more of the old charm and what coffee houses are really about: bringing together good friends for a cup of Joe.

“We get coffee, sometimes twice a week, just to catch up,” Dawn Hanson said about the time spent with her friend at La Bella Bean following a morning workout.

is just one of the local coffee houses that are located in the Chartiers Valley area. Located at 609 Washington Ave., the cozy shop boasts several specialty roasts, crèmes, iced coffees and espressos for every one’s taste. If you’re feeling creative, you can mix and match ingredients that tickle your taste buds like caramel, mint, mocha and chocolate.

Your favorite drink may even end up on the rotating weekly specials menu. It’s a quaint and inviting house de café with a calm and open feel. They also host an assortment of breakfast sandwiches, bagels, muffins and other tasty baked goods.

One of the best-kept secrets in town may be at 200 Washington Ave. Shouf’s offers traditional coffee for those on the go, while also preparing authentic Lebanese meals for those who want to try something new. The staff is friendly and the service is excellent.

Sadly, one of my personal favorites, , located on Pennsylvania Avenue, closed last week. The hip coffee house and restaurant offered an extensive menu that made me want to go back again and again. I'll miss it.

Still, next time you’re out and about and looking for some quality Joe, it’s always nice to support the local community and small business owners. And with the number of café selections in Bridgeville, there’s no need to travel very far to find a great cup of coffee.
