Bee'z Bistro a Versatile Eatery

Who would want a burger served on a hoagie bun?

That’s an easy question to answer when that long bun gives the sandwich more room to be smothered with cheese, bacon and other toppings. And at , there are plenty of good sandwiches to choose from.

Nestled away in Portman’s Commons shopping center off Washington Pike in South Fayette, Bee’z offers customers a place to throw back a few beers, or slide over to the traditional dining area to have a meal with the family.

The restaurant first opened in the early 1990s farther down Washington Pike, but moved to its current location in 2001. The restaurant expanded about five years ago to include the bar side that has become a staple for regulars.

The bar area is a little dark, but its cozy environment gives customers a welcome atmosphere. Most patrons pull up bar stools, leaving plenty of room at the numerous tabletops for people to order without having to wait.

The restaurant offers excellent happy hour specials that extend to many items on the menu.

My favorite sandwich on the menus, the mushroom swiss burger, comes with the option of chips or fries, depending on the special. When it arrives, the two beef patties are juicy and tender, smothered in cheese, mushrooms, bacon and plenty of vegetables to offer up some extra flavor.

But Bee’z offers more than just burgers.

A date decided to order the shrimp alfredo that came in a large bowl that left plenty for leftovers. It wasn’t what you would expect from a typical bar restaurant, which told me that Bee’z has a wider menu that should be explored.

On Monday, the bar area also offers wing specials starting at 7 p.m. Unlike most restaurants that present skimpy bones with a little bit of meat, Bee’z serves up plump chickens wings with a good array of sauces.

With all that food to choose from, Bee’z is definitely a place you’ll return to again and again. And with both its sports bar atmosphere and family appeal, it is perfect for groups of any size and any age.
