Winter Storm Warning Issued for Pittsburgh Area

As many as 6 inches of snow could fall in Pittsburgh by Thursday afternoon.

It might not be a white Christmas, but it could be a snowy day after.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning through Thursday for most of Western Pennsylvania.

As much as 6 inches of snow accumulation is possible—with the white stuff falling at a rate of an inch an hour or more, according to the NWS website.

“Snow will develop Wednesday morning and quickly become heavy. A period of very heavy snow is likely late Wednesday morning into early Wednesday afternoon,” the website indicates.

Drivers are reminded that the potential snow storm could cause hazardous travel conditions.
