Towns Look For New Dog Catchers after Triangle Pet Closes

The recent closure of an animal control company is putting Collier Township, South Fayette and many other South Hills communities in a bind.

The recent closure of an animal control company is putting Collier Township and other South Hills communities in a bind.

Triangle Pet Services, the McKees Rocks dog catcher that is used by many area communities, was shut down by the state because of possible fraud and poor living conditions for the animals housed inside.

That means places such as Collier and South Fayette haven’t been able to take care of complaints about loose dogs if needed.

Collier police Chief Tom Devin said they are using a temporary company that can help with some emergency cases, but not day-to-day calls.

“Now we’re scrambling, along with many other communities, to find someone to do the job. That makes it fairly tough,” Devin said. “Hopefully we won’t have any major problems for the township residents. Service is curtailed a little bit and we’re only handling emergencies.”

Devin said he expects the township to hire a new company to do all of the tasks at the next commissioners meeting on Oct. 10.

Bridgeville previously used Triangle Pet until two months ago when it terminated its agreement and hired Kym Secreet out of Washington County to do the work.
