Emergency responders from Bridgeville, South Fayette and Upper St. Clair rescued a man Monday afternoon after he attempted suicide near Chartiers Park. The 32-year-old Bethel Park man, whose name is not being released, was found in a wooded area near Chartiers Creek around 4 p.m., Bridgeville police Chief Chad King said. He was taken by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital where he is expected to survive, King said.

The Chartiers Valley School Board approved construction of a new $240,000 entryway for the district administration building despite the cost of the project increasing by more than 25 percent. The project increased by $50,000 from original estimates in January because of an added security system and rising construction costs.

 

People living in western Pennsylvania don’t seem to be as passionate about authentic barbeque as those living in other regions of the country. But J.P. Mackovich is working to change that by smoking up barbeque recipes that keep hungry customers coming back for more. Mackovich’s Two Brothers Bar-B-Q stand has created quite a following with its cozy stand and three grills located in a parking lot off Thoms Run Road.

 

Collier Township Manager Gary Vituccio resigned from his position Friday, prompting municipal officials to immediately begin searching for his replacement. Collier Commissioner Bob Schuler said Vituccio resigned over “personal things” and that there was no animosity between the two sides. However, Schuler said he was not surprised by Vituccio’s decision to leave.

 

Despite facing a “challenging” economic climate and cutbacks from the state, the Chartiers Valley School District does not expect to raise property taxes in the upcoming budget. The $49.842 budget proposal will not cut any major programs and keep taxes at 19.88 mills, one of the lowest rates in Allegheny County.
