Nice Weather Won't Last Much Longer

The National Weather Service said if the rapture doesn't happen, expect thunderstorms instead.

Meteorologist Lee Hendricks said if you have kids in Little League baseball, good luck.

Rainy, soggy, depressing weather is expected to persist through next week — if, of course, the world doesn’t end.

“I just hope I can get the admin approval to leave if the rapture occurs halfway through my shift,” Hendricks said with a laugh.

But seriously: If you want to soak up some sun, the National Weather Service in Moon said clear your schedule Saturday and Sunday morning, because it might be the only chance you get.

Temperatures are expected to soar to about 82 degrees Sunday, but rain will be moving in later in the day. Hendricks said the forecast gets worse after that for the rest of the coming week.

He said a weather pattern he likened to “a flip-flop of El Nino” has caused a delay in the onslaught of spring, and confirmed summer will be late arriving because of it, too.

Since Jan. 1, Washington County has seen a whopping 20.4 inches of rainfall, which is about 5 inches more than last year. Allegheny County isn’t fairing any better, he added. It has seen more than 8 inches of rainfall over last year.

So, when did Hendricks expect warm, sunny weather?

“I keep sticking with the June 1 number,” he said. “I’m just not telling you what year.”
