Snow Wreaks Havoc on South Hills

Snow showers dumped at least three inches of snow on the South Hills, causing delays on I-79 and Washington Pike

A heavy band of snow showers along a line extending from Beaver County to Fayette County pounded the South Hills for much of the morning. Snow can accumulate a quick one or two inches where these bands of heavier snow showers persist, according to the National Weather Service. Visibilities can become sharply reduced and untreated pavements can become snow-covered and slippery.

The snow caused heavy delays on Interstate 79 from the Washington County line to the Parkway West. And traffic was at a standstill on Washington Pike near Bridgeville around 9:30 a.m. Around that same time Upper St. Clair Patch received reports of slow traffic and very slick roadways near and on Boyce Road.
