Severe Thunderstorm Watch Expires for Chartiers Valley Area

Update: The watch has expired.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for southwestern Pennsylvania, including the Chartiers Valley area.

The watch remains in effect through 10 p.m. Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service, which says some storms cound be severe with damaging winds.  The chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected mainly after 5 p.m. and before midnight.

A hazardous weather outlook is also in effect this week, with frosty and potentially freezing conditions possible on Friday and Saturday nights and possibly Sunday.   

Here's a look at the forecast:

• Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before midnight. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 63. Southwest wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

• Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 74. Southwest wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

• Thursday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Cloudy, with a low around 44. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

• Friday: A chance of showers, mainly before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59. North wind 11 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Friday Night: Patchy frost after 2 a.m. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 36.

• Saturday: Patchy frost before 10 a.m. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 63.

• Saturday Night: Patchy frost after 1 a.m. Otherwise, clear, with a low around 35.

• Sunday: Patchy frost before 10 a.m. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 66.
