PennDOT Closes Prestley Road For Bridge Construction

PennDOT is closing Prestley Road near Presto on Saturday morning for a seven-month construction project to rebuild the bridge carrying traffic over Chartiers Creek.

The work to repair the bridge will begin March 9 and is expected to continue through mid-October. The work will replace the bridge deck, install new bearings and make other roadway improvements.

“It’s been a band-aid for several years, so it certainly needs the work,” PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi said.

No thru-traffic will be permitted from Route 50 in Bridgeville to Thoms Run Road in Presto. However, PennDOT officials announced they will install temporary traffic signals between Thoms Run Road and Journey Church.

Chartiers Valley school buses will be allowed to continue through the area and around staggered barriers set up at the entrances to Journey Church and Cavanaugh Landscaping.  However, anyone trying to get to Journey, St. Barbara’s Catholic Church or Cavanaugh from Bridgeville will be required to take Route 50 to Thoms Run Road before turning onto Prestley Road at the temporary signals.

PennDOT estimates that nearly 6,100 vehicles use Prestley Road in that area each day. This work is part of a $1.6 million construction project.
