PennDOT Agreement Saves Heidelberg $20K on New Parking Lot

A shared work agreement between PennDOT and Heidelberg Borough made a new parking lot possible at the Heidelberg Community Room.

A shared work agreement between PennDOT and Heidelberg Borough brought a new parking lot from hope to reality.

A new parking lot for the Heidelberg Community Room opened last week on Oak Way, and has spaces for nine cars.

It's a small lot, but much needed for the Community Room, which houses a number of community meetings and organizations, including the Heidelberg Historical Society, the Monthly Seniors Program, borough council meetings and event rentals.

"Through this partnership with the Commonwealth and PennDOT, the borough saved approximately $20,000 as no money was exchanged for this public improvement, thus stretching our municipal budget a little further to expand and improve public services and facilities for the citizens of Heidelberg," said council President Raymond Losego in a released statement.

The project was made possible through an Agility Agreement, a shared work plan in which Heidelberg provides grass cutting, litter pickup and other work along state roads within the borough for in-kind services from PennDOT.

The Heidelberg Public Works department constructed the base and foundation for the new parking lot, and PennDOT did the paving.
