New Library Opens in Grand Fashion

Bridgeville Library is quickly becoming a hub for the community.

A throng of people filled the new to get a glimpse of the marvelous facility during its grand opening celebration Sunday afternoon.

But Nino Petrocelli, a borough councilman and member of the library board, said the success of the new library is about more than just the $4 million building.

“Look all around. This is progress,” Petrocelli said. “It speaks for itself. This is the idea. The programs make the building. It’s not just the building.”

has been open since January when it moved out of . The move gave the library a chance to expand its collection and improve programs for Bridgeville residents.

Librarian Donna Taylor beamed as she displayed statistics showing incredible growth in circulation, programs and registrations. She said the library received a crush of new cardholders, more than 75 percent of them from Bridgeville. She said that indicated the library is drawing in more local residents than ever before.

“It’s just amazing,” Taylor said. “The numbers are off the charts.”

She said once people enter the library, they realize is has more to offer than a collection of books.

“We knew everyone would love it, and they do,” she said.

Dozens of people filed into the new building after Petrocelli and Mary Weise, both of whom were instrumental in the process, cut a ribbon and opened the doors. Although , this gave local officials another opportunity to tout the library’s progress.

Many people grabbed a slice of cake and either sat in the large community room or in the common area behind the library. Others walked around the book stacks while a few children played in the kids’ area.

The celebration continues this week during Bridgeville Days. The library will hold a variety of events Thursday as they kick off .
