'It'll be a down day for sure'

Steelers fans lament loss to the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XLV.

The Pittsburgh Steelers made a gallant attempt to come back and win another Super Bowl championship, but could not overcome costly turnovers to win a seventh Lombardi.

“It sucks to see them come all this way, but only two teams get there,” said Ryan Talotta, a Scott Township native. “There’s always next year. Hopefully they make another run at it.

“I’m sure there will be a lot of upset Yinzers.”

The Green Bay Packers used three costly turnovers, including an interception returned for a touchdown, to win their fourth Super Bowl and record 13th NFL championship.

Suzanne Wenzel and Paul DiNardo straddled a couple of bar stools at Burgh’s Pizza & Wings and tried to parlay those seats into another world championship. The two arrived at the restaurant around noon to make sure they found the same seats for the two previous playoff victories.

"We were the first ones here," Wenzel said.

They lauded the atmosphere because of the friends they made. Wenzel, of Bridgeville, proudly displayed a couple of cowbells to cheer on the Steelers.

“It’s the same group of people,” Wenzel said. “We love it.”

Still, DiNardo said he figured the game would be tough.

“There was no guarantee with this one,” DiNardo said.

DiNardo said despite the “devastating” loss, they enjoyed being with their group of friends at the Burgh’s. Still, it couldn’t compare to a home game at Heinz Field.

“We love it, but it’s not like being at the game,” DiNardo said. “When that crowd roars, you get goosebumps.”

But Steelers fans couldn’t find those goosebumps while watching Super Bowl XLV. Instead they were treated to a disappointing loss, although not one from which Pittsburgh won’t be able to rebound.

“It’ll be a down day for sure,” said Dennis Morgan of Peters Township. “But it won’t last past Tuesday.”

Tammy Collingwood, who made sure she found a seat at Burgh’s for the game, said she thinks the game will motivate the fans and players for next yaer.

“They have the best and most loyal fans win or lose,” Collingwood said.
