In Case You Missed It...

Police and fire reports ruled this week's coverage on Chartiers Valley Patch.

Unlike in past weeks when the Steelers ruled our weekly coverage, this past week was all about police and fire reports.

A local police chief said that the suspected peeping tom who had been spying on homes in South Fayette, Cecil and Bridgeville apparently left the area recently. Bridgeville police Chief Chad King said police did not have enough evidence to arrest the man, but he “got the message” and went back home to the Williamsport area.

On Thursday, a strong gas odor inside Chartiers Valley Primary School forced students out of the building and into the middle school auditorium.. Meanwhile, a toddler was found wandering in the frigid cold outside of her Scott Township home while her parents were away.

Local authorities think the peeping tom who spent the past few months peering into area homes has left the region. Investigators recently searched the man’s South Fayette residence, but did not have enough evidence to charge him. However, Bridgeville police Chief Chad King said the man “got the message” and returned to his hometown near Williamsport.

Chartiers Valley Primary School was closed all day Thursday after a strong odor of gas filled the building. The students ranging from kindergarten to second grade spent the day at the middle school auditorium while workers opened windows in an unsuccessful attempt to air out the natural gas. "The smell, right now, is a little overwhelming," district spokesman Chuck McCartney said in the morning.

A mother and father were arrested last week after their 3-year-old daughter was found wandering outside their Scott Township home in the frigid cold. Scott police charged Chauntae and Justin Penatzer, both 23, with two counts each of endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment after the couple’s daughter was found alone near their apartment at 503 Carothers Ave.

Allegheny County is collecting unwanted or gently used formal dresses to donate to underprivileged teens who need something nice to wear to prom but otherwise couldn't afford them. The county’s Department of Human Services is collecting the dresses from now until late March when it will allow the teens to browse the hangers for the dresses of their dreams.

The McLaughlin Run Road Bridge will temporarily close for a replacement project. Bridgeville Borough Manager Lori Collins said the bridge was deemed unsafe and is expected to close mid-March. Construction crews will widen the one-lane bridge and will move a large sanitary pipe.
