Holy Child's SummerFest Begins

Games, food, and entertainment for the whole family this weekend.

The annual SummerFest at will be held this Friday and Saturday evenings from 6 to 10 p.m.  There will be food, games, entertainment, raffles and more for everyone to enjoy.

This is the church’s only fundraiser of the year and proceeds will help with repairs and activities for the parish and adjacent school.

Entertainment includes the 30-piece Mon Valley Community Band kicking off at 6:45 p.m. on Friday before a DJ takes over at 7:45. Saturday night’s entertainment starts with the Southwest Button Box accordion players at 6:15 p.m. followed by a night of jazz.

The Kiddie Corner will be in the church parking lot off Hickman Street with plenty of activities including a giant blow up moon walk, many games of chance under the tents and basketball shooting activities. Bingo will be held in the school gym nightly.

You can’t forget the delicious food for which the festival has become widely known for. All cooked on location, the variety this year offers something for all appetites. They will have the traditional burgers, steak and fish sandwiches, funnel cakes, fruit, fresh lemonade and a featured rib dinner. There will also be several polish entrees, Italian favorites and a taste of India to sample. Beer and soft drinks will be available.

Fundraising events of the festival include an auction with many gift baskets, bake sale, and raffle with the chance to win three top prizes of $6,000, $3,000 or $1,000 in cash. The raffles will be held at the close of the festival Saturday at 10 pm. Winners need not be present.

“It just keeps getting bigger and bigger every year,” said the Holy Child staff coordinator. The entire effort was handled by volunteer chair people and many others from the parish and community pitching in to lend a hand.  “We’re just hoping for good weather,” she said.  For more information, call the Parish Center at 412-221-5213 or stop on by!
