Help Bridgeville 3-Year-Old Fight Leukemia

A blood drive will be held next week for Sydney Hawk, a 3-year-old Bridgeville resident who was recently diagnosed with leukemia.

A replenishment blood drive in Bridgeville on May 26 will support a local child who recently was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia.

Sydney Hawk, 3, is the daughter of Karin and Joe Hawk of Bridgeville. Her sister, Addison, is a kindergarten student at Chartiers Valley Primary School.

Sydney was diagnosed with leukemia in March and received treatment at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. She has Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), a rare condition occurring in less than 10 percent of children with ALL.

Her treatments are expected to last for about two and a half years, and will require many units of blood.

Those wishing to donate to Sydney’s cause can come to the Holy Child Catholic School gymnasium on May 26, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Donors are asked to schedule an appointment.
