PennDOT Prepares for Heavy Snowfall

The weather service issued a winter storm watch for the area that could bring up to 6 inches of snow by Monday night.

The issued a winter storm watch late Sunday night through Monday evening.

Rain is predicted to change to snow early Monday morning with the heaviest snowfall later in the day. Two to four inches of accumulation is predicted for the Pittsburgh area.

Meanwhile, The Weather Channel is predicting as much as six inches of snow for some areas of Western Pennsylvania.

"A heavy, wet accumulation of snow is expected that may cause significant problems with the downing of tree limbs that have developed leaves which may in turn spawn power outages. Some travel difficulties can be expected Monday morning as well," according to the weather statement.

said crews in Allegheny County were preparing trucks and equipment Sunday afternoon for the possible heavy snow. PennDOT crews plan to be out monitoring and treating roads overnight when the storm hits.
