Frankenstorm Postpones Trick-or-Treat for Most South Hills Neighborhoods

The high winds, heavy rain and potential flooding from the remnants of Hurricane Sandy have forced several South Hills towns to reschedule their Trick-or-Treat times.

Frankenstorm has gobbled up Trick-or-Treat for most South Hills communities.

The high winds, heavy rain and potential flooding from the remnants of Hurricane Sandy have forced nearly every town to reschedule its Trick-or-Treat times.

By 10:30 a.m. Monday, Bridgeville, Collier Township and Heidelberg had already rescheduled their Trick-or-Treat times from Halloween to Saturday night. South Park has rescheduled its Trick-or-Treat to Saturday afternoon.

After initially planning to hold Trick-or-Treat on Oct. 31, Scott Township, Mt. Lebanon, Green Tree and Bethel Park all reconsidered and announced that their towns have pushed it back to Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Town officials in South Fayette also announced that the township would change Trick-or-Treat to Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, only Carnegie said it would continue with the regular Trick-or-Treat schedule on Halloween from 6 to 8 p.m. You can also click here to view changes to Trick-or-Treat times in Dormont and the City of Pittsburgh.

Did Scott Township say why they are not rescheduling there Trick-or-Treat? I would think that for the safety of the kids that they should reconsider this.
Mike Jones (Editor) October 29, 2012 at 04:34 PM
No... Only that they discussed it and decided to keep it at the same time (along with Carnegie and Mt. Lebanon). I'll make sure to update the story if they change their decision.

What ever happen to safety first for the kids? Scott Twp should be ashamed of themselves!!

They now have a new automated phone message that says it will remain on Oct. 31. The message states: "Please take extra precautions as the inclement weather deems necessary."

Mt. Lebanon just announced that it has pushed back Trick-or-Treating to Saturday night. I have a call into Scott Township's manager to see if they are reconsidering.

Wow, sounds like Patti has a whole list of grievances against Scott Township. If you don't want to give out candy, then DON'T. Who cares??

for those of you saying Scott should be ashamed for not changing trick or treating... today is Monday. halloween is wednesday. im proud of Scott for not jumping and making predictions about what things will be like on wednesday. lets take this storm a day at a time. no one knows what 24 or 48 hrs will bring.
guest October 29, 2012 at 07:38 PM
the safety of trick or treaters is the responsibility of the parents. storm or not storm. wednesday or saturday. please dont open your door to me and my child if you have the attitude that you will blame a township if you CHOOSE to send your kid out in poor weather conditions because they didnt move trick or treating. scott twp is not forcing any child or parent to go trick or treating or participate in any way.
Nancy Lesniakowski October 29, 2012 at 07:48 PM
The communities that are still holding it on Wed. definitely need to reconsider.

South Fayette Township just announced that it has RESCHEDULED its Trick-or-Treat to Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. Township officials explained why in an email to residents: "Concern for children and safety personnel during this week’s storm prompted the change in date."

Must better to be sorry than safe..... Oh wait, isn't that backwards?
John Smith October 29, 2012 at 08:31 PM
I totally agree!!!! These people should be glad that this is all they have to worry about on MONDAY when Halloween is not until WEDNESDAY! Just be thankful that you do not live in a community where you might have things to worry about like major property damage or worse. Why don't you all just run on down to Walmart and start stockpiling batteries, toilet paper, & other supplies. Seriously!

Bethel Park and Upper St. Clair have both rescheduled their Trick-or-Treat times to Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. http://upperstclair.patch.com/articles/upper-st-clair-postpones-trick-or-treating

Dear guest, I am sorry to disagree with you on this. Error on the side of caution and look at how many other communities have decided to push. There must be a good reason to push and I cannot think that all these other communities are acting to just act. Also, I am a capable parent that knows when and when not to send my kids out, but that is not my issue. If I simply do. It is more about my kids missing the opportunity of trick-or-treating if it does get as bad as everyone seems to think because someone lacked the good judgement. This might be over reacting at this moment, but that is yet to be determined.

Just got word that Scott Township has moved its Trick-or-Treat to Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m.

OK now Carnegie. !!!
Guest October 30, 2012 at 02:48 PM
Any word on Carnegie?
Mike Jones (Editor) October 30, 2012 at 02:57 PM
As of 10 a.m. Tuesday... Carnegie, the last Halloween holdout in the South Hills, is keeping Trick-or-Treat on Wednesday night.
guest October 31, 2012 at 02:54 AM
good for Carnegie! Scott should have held out too. actually, all neighborhoods should not have made a decision about weather more than 48 hours before the actual event as weather predictions are nearly always wrong. last years halloween was cold and rainy. looks like tomorrow will be no different. too bad for those poor kids looking forward to it!
