Calling All Fishermen—All Invited to Heidelberg Fishing Derby

You don't need to be a Heidelberg resident to enjoy a day of fishing at Chartiers Creek.

Last year's new community event is becoming an annual favorite in Heidelberg.

The second annual Heidelberg Fishing Derby is Saturday, Aug. 10, at Chartiers Creek, and it's open to fishermen of all ages.

Fishing starts at 8 a.m., with registration at Heidelberg Park Pavilion from 8 to 10 a.m. Registration fees are $5 for adults and $3 for children. Prizes and plaques will be awarded for the largest single fish in six categories:

  • Sucker / Carp & Sheep’s Head (same category)
  • Bass (small or large mouth)
  • Crappie Bass
  • Perch
  • Sun Fish / Blue-Gill
  • Catfish

Pennsylvania fishing licenses and laws apply, and no boats are permitted. Fishing is allowed only in Chartiers Creek along and within the borders of Heidelberg Borough—essentially, from Greentree Road to the Grant Avenue Railroad Bridge.

Participants do not need to be Heidelberg residents.

Live music featuring the band “Local” starts at noon and family-friendly festivities and contests will take place at Heidelberg Park. Raffles for fishing equipment and gear, a 50/50 raffle and food will be for sale at the Borough’s concession stand.
