Breast Cancer Survivors Gather at Allegheny General Hospital
Hospital partners with American Cancer Society, Komen Foundation and Gilda's Club to offer area women unique forum.
Breast cancer survivors from the greater Pittsburgh region will convene at Allegheny General Hospital Sept. 15, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, for a symposium that will address the latest developments in the treatment and prevention of the disease and provide discussion about vital breast cancer support services in the region.
“The Many Faces of Breast Cancer” event will feature presentations by a panel of leading cancer specialists from AGH as well as from representatives of the American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Gilda’s Club of Western PA.
The panel of experts from AGH will speak to issues that directly affect the 2.5 million survivors in the U.S. today, offering insight into the latest data surrounding treatment, disease recurrence and prevention.

Marilyn Brooks, former senior medical editor at WTAE Channel 4 News, will serve as moderator of the program.
The program will include the following presentations, followed by a question and answer session:

- Betsy Blazek-O’Neill, MD, Medical Director of the Integrated Medicine Program at AGH, will provide a relaxation exercise, and discuss the role of Vitamin D, supplements, nutrition and exercise, as well as ways to deal with stress.
- Thomas B. Julian, MD, Director, Division of Breast Surgical Oncology for West Penn Allegheny Health System, will present new information on staging, micrometastases and clinical trials.
- Jane M. Raymond, MD, Director, Division of Medical Oncology at AGH, will discuss the top 5 survivorship issues: fatigue, sexuality, lymphedema, fear and self-image.
- Mark Trombetta, MD, FACR, System Director of Clinical Program Development, Department of Radiation Oncology for West Penn Allegheny Health System, will discuss new developments in radiation treatment.
