5 Things: Panorama, Diving Championship and Community Re-sale

Here are five events to check out this weekend.

1.
Where?/When?: , 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Friday
Why Go?: Carrie Kennedy, author of Panorama: An Introduction to Classical Mythology, will be visiting the library to talk about classic Greek and Roman myths, and how they relate to the adventures of Percy Jackson. Sure to be enjoyed by kids ages 8-12, but families are welcome too! Registration is not required.

2.
Where?/When?: , 11 a.m. on Friday and Saturday
Why Go?: The Settlers Cabin Dive Pool will host the USA Diving National Preliminary Zone A Championships from July 19 through 21. The event is one of four regional meets that serve as qualifiers for the U.S. National Diving Championships. The event is an open senior meet and may attract competitors from age 14 and up. Winners in the various diving competitions will qualify for the 2012 AT&T National Diving Championships, which will take place in Greensboro, N.C., from August 14 through 19. .
Pricing: Admission to the meet is: $3 for ages 60 and older; $5 for ages 18 to 59; $4 for ages 13 to 17; $3 for ages 6 to 12; and $1 for ages 0 to 5. Spectators are also welcome to use the Settlers Cabin Wave Pool.

Where?/When?: at 8 to 11 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: Movies (rated G or PG) will be screened on the pool patio (or in the Social Hall if weather is bad). The JCC will provide lemonade, ice water and popcorn. Bring lawn chairs or blankets and your own snacks. Please, no meat or seafood. For the exact movie title, call the JCC Thursday before the movie. No fee, no advance registration

4.
Where?/When?: South Fayette Library, 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: The Young Writers Program is a fun, no-cost writing program where middle school teens (grades 5-8) who share a passion for writing explore their craft. Teens write novels and scripts, share word-count goals and achievements, and brainstorm with other writers via online message boards. Brittany Ketter, a seasoned NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) and ScriptFrenzy veteran, guides teens through the Young Writers Program. Participants learn about inciting incidents, character building, plot making, dialogue and also work to improve writing skills, grammar and formatting of novels. Where?/When?:Sterling Drive and Crestwood Drive, McDonald, PA, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday
Why Go?: South Fayette's Sterling Ridge community plan is having a massive re-sale of numerous toddler, kid's new and gently used clothing/ toys, items, and more. This event is better than any garage sale as there will be something for everyone items as well!
