5 Things to Do This Weekend

Here are five events to check out this weekend.

1.
Where?/When?: , 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  on Saturday
Why Go?: Bark for Life is the American Cancer Society Canine Relay for Life! Come take a bite out of cancer at this fun event for the whole family. There will be food, drinks, vendors, adoptable pets, prizes and more!
Pricing: $15 registration fee per dog.

2.
Where?/When?: , 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: The Scott Township Public Library is hosting a program about preparing your family for disastrous events. This will be an introduction to the concepts of short and long term food storage, water storage, emergency power generation and other critical techniques needed to bring your loved ones through tough times.

3.
Where?/When?: , 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: Readers in grades K-5 are invited to come read to Zeke or Max, certified Therapy Dogs. Kids can practice their reading in a fun, relaxed atmosphere where reluctant readers and dog lovers alike look forward to reading aloud. Readers can select a book at home to practice before their session or choose one at the library. Call the library at 412-221-3737 to register for a 15 minute reading session.

4.
Where?/When?: Club at Nevillewood, 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday
Why Go?: The Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western PA at Allegheny General Hospital invites all sports fans and collectors to attend the 18th Annual Sports Memorabilia Auction. This fun, family-friendly event will be held at the Club at Nevillewood in Presto and will be emceed by sports talk radio’s John Phillips. Other guests include Pittsburgh Pirates alumni Steve Blass and Don Schwall, Miss Pennsylvania USA Sheena Monnin and Miss Pennsylvania Teen USA Julia Belechak. Advance reservations are requested.

5.
Where?/When?: South Strabane Fire Department, 4 p.m. on Sunday
Why Go?: This fundraiser is to help relieve the financial burden of Faith Hastings family. Faith is a beautiful, loving 4-year-old little girl. She has hemifacial microsomia—a congenital disease—and will be having surgery to help repair her face. During her surgery and recovery at Johns’ Hopkins hospital, her family will have to stay in Baltimore, MD for an extended period of time. Her parents—Randy and Rachel—will be missing work and all expenses, including their lodging, will be out of pocket.
Pricing: $4 for kids, $7 for adults (in advance, call 724-223-5535), $5 for kids, $8 for adults at the door. Raffle tickets will be 3 for $1.
