Ruling Makes Morning-After Pill Available to Local Teens

Teenagers as young as 15 can purchase the emergency contraceptive without a prescription.

The Food and Drug Administration approved a plan to market Plan B One-Step for use without a prescription by women 15 years of age and older this week. The product will be available in retail outlets with an onsite pharmacy in the family planning or female health aisles. The product will be available for sale during the retailer’s normal operating hours whether the pharmacy is open or not. The emergency contraceptive will be packaged with a product code prompting a cashier to request and verify the customer’s age. A customer who cannot provide age verification will not be able to purchase the product. In addition, the drug's maker Teva has arranged to have a security tag placed on all product cartons to prevent theft. Bridgeville-Based Pediatrician Named Best in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh Magazine released its 2013 list of best doctors.

Edward Charles Ketyer, with Pediatric Alliance-Chartiers Division, is one of the best doctors in the Pittsburgh area, according to Pittsburgh Magazine. Dr. Ketyer is on the magazine's 2013 list of best general pediatricans.  Pediatric Alliance-Chartiers Division is located at 1370 Washington Pike, Ste 107. The phone number is 412-221-0160. Dormont's Hollywood Theater turns 2 this weekend, and the community is invited to celebrate.

Dormont's iconic Hollywood Theater has had two successful years since re-opening in 2011, and the South Hills community is invited to celebrate. Today, Friday, starting at 7 p.m., a Birthday Gala will be held at the Hollywood. Tickets for the event are $25, and the cost includes jazz standards performed live by the Thoth Trio, short classic films, and the debut of a film about the theater. Birthday cake, raffles, drinks and more will be provided. Proceeds from Friday's event benefit the Hollywood's ongoing effort to go digital by purchasing a digital movie projector. Popular Store in The Galleria is Closing

The retailer will be open until the end of May.

Larrimor's at The Galleria of Mt. Lebanon will be closing at the end of May, according to the Pittsburgh Business Times. The clothing store has been open in Mt. Lebanon for about 20 years. The president told the newspaper that, "We want to return to our roots ... We never intended to be a multi-store operation." The other Larrimor's is located in downtown Pittsburgh. State Has Money for Scott Township EMS, Bridgeville Civic League and You

The Pennsylvania Treasury's Bureau of Unclaimed Property lists local organizations and businesses with money due them—and there might be some out there for you, too.

Each year, the Pennsylvania Treasury receives millions of dollars in unclaimed property, including abandoned bank accounts, forgotten stocks, uncashed checks, certificates of deposit, life insurance policies, safe deposit box contents and recovered stolen property.  Most of this unclaimed property is owed to individual residents. However, there are a number of municipalities, school districts, fire and police departments, civic groups, and other organizations that also have money waiting for them. Pittsburgh International to Add Nonstop Flight to L.A.

American Airlines will soon be adding the daily flight.

American Airlines will begin seven-day nonstop service between Pittsburgh International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport beginning on August 27. "Increasing nonstop flights to the west coast has been an important goal of my administration," Allegheny County Chief Executive Rich Fitzgerald stated. "Improving west coast access is vital to our businesses and will encourage more economic development." "This route will meet travelers’ needs to fly nonstop to Los Angeles, and from there, to connect conveniently to many destinations in the West and internationally," said Allegheny County Airport Authority Chairman David Minnotte. Rumfish Grille Expected to Open Today

The seafood restaurant had a “soft opening” over the weekend and plan to formally open on Monday afternoon.

The Rumfish Grille in the Great Southern Shopping Center is expected to open Monday. The seafood restaurant had a “soft opening” over the weekend and plan to formally open on Monday afternoon. The new restaurant is located in the corner of Great Southern next to Tuesday Mornings. The opening date has been slowed over the past year for unknown reasons.
