As a former Mt. Lebanon resident, I know how exciting each and every planned event is to the community.  Now as an adult, visiting brings back memories of my childhood. I was happy to be able to attend to see this dedication.  

Walking on Cedar Boulevard along the tennis courts reminds me of childhood gone by. This time my visit was different, not for school, not for ice hockey, but for really understanding why Memorial Day was here.

Memorial Day is not about hot dogs, hamburgers and get togethers, but it is about honoring all veterans and active duty military who served aboard or at home.  The memorial provides tribute to those who gave their lives in the line of duty for our country. 

The dedication began with the Skibo Brass playing and then KDKA-TV's Jon Delano welcoming all in attendance. The invocation was led by District Judge Blaise Larotonda, and the Posting of the Colors was done by the Marine Corps League, South Hills Detachment 726.

Watching the flag being carried, attached, raised and saluted was an emotional acceleration only matched by the beautiful Star Spangled Banner and the Pledge of Allegiance. All around me you could feel the emotions that were patriotic and strong. Everyone very focused on the Posting of the Colors. 

I was lucky enought to catch up and speak with Keynote Speaker Rocky Bleier.  I asked Rocky his thoughts on the memorial and overwhelmingly his most pronounced declaration was how wonderful the Mt. Lebanon Veterans Memorial turned out. 

As the program came to a close, Peter Kreuthmeier (Loysen + Kreuthmeier) was called upon to give the signal to light the Memorial. As Peter signaled the memorial was lit.  The Mt. Lebanon Veteran's Memorial became official and will forevermore be visible for all to see. 

It was such a beautiful night and we were ever so blessed that the rain held off until the dedication was finished.
