Woman Struck By Car on Carothers Avenue in Glendale
A woman crossing Carothers Avenue in Glendale was struck by a car and seriously injured Thursday.
A woman crossing Carothers Avenue in Glendale was struck by a car and seriously injured Thursday night.
Glendale fire Chief Tom Salerno said the woman was crossing the street about 5:40 p.m. when a motorist driving toward Carnegie tried to avoid her, but hit her and then crashed into an apartment building.
The woman, who was not identified by authorities, was taken to Allegheny General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Salerno said.
“He tried to avoid her, but he hit her and then crashed into the building,” Salerno said.
The building in the 400 block of Carothers Avenue sustained structural damage around the doorway and a tow truck had to remove the car.
The busy road was closed for about an hour while Scott Township police investigated the crash.
It’s not known if the driver, who was not identified, will face any charges.

That's a bad stretch of road. So much traffic both directions, plus on street parking is allowed. There always seems to be folks walking along there as well. I sometimes feel like I'm going to loose a mirror off my truck driving through...Hope the pedestrian is ok.

It's very bad! Especially when people are getting in and out of their cars on that road. The pot holes don't help! You can't avoid them or you are going to hit someone else! The roads that come up from Center ave, people can't see when they turn on Carothers. I can't tell you how many times I've almost been hit.

carothers ave is rediculous. thank goodness we have GEORGE the crossing gaurd at the bus stop at carothers and magazine st. so many times cars just refuse to stop. if it wasn't for him, we'd be unable to cross the street to get our kids to and from the bus. cars don't even slow down until they get 10 ft away sometimes. or they see the bus coming with it's lights on and think "step on it, i can't take 2 minutes out of my busy schedule to make sure these children get off the bus safely" it's a shame.

Its amazing how many accidents occur in glendale. Traffic from magazine st. And carothers because the stop sign is ten feet before the road, car mirrors being broke because two lanes and parked cars sometimes on both sides! And mostly dark road on a busy street u dont have a safe place for pedestrians too cross. So tell me how much more is this going to go on before something is done? Sincerely tired of it!

I grew up in Glendale. That road has been bad for as long as I can remember! Pretty sad when the commissioner lives in that neighborhood! Nothing has ever been done nor will it ever be done! More than one crosswalk needs put in. No on street parking should be allowed and most importantly, the speed limit is 25 mph for a reason! Slow down people!!

No street parking? Then please tell me where everyone is suppose to park?
People just need to slow down. Or cops could place the speed radars on the street. They are usually parked at the fire station and down at that bar by the yellow bridge. But they can't always be there. People need to take personal responsibility and slow down.
