Vending Machine Stolen, Sold for Scrap

A Coca-Cola vending machine was stolen earlier this month in Scott Township and apparently sold for scrap.

Scott Township police said the vending machine was discovered missing from the 600 block of Idlewood Avenue on Oct. 9.

Police said the machine was left unsecured outside a duplex in the East Carnegie neighborhood.

Investigators think the vending machine was later sold for scrap metal. Police said they are continuing to investigate and did not release where the metal was sold or who may have taken it.

Police also did not say to which business or organization the vending machine belonged.

Scott Township

Scrap metal theft: Scott police said they arrested two township residents in connection with scrap metal thefts. Police charged Joshua Popp, 29, and Amanda Mayfield, 25, with theft, receiving stolen property and trespassing after they allegedly stole scrap metal from the 200 block of Hope Street. Police said they were found at All American Metals trying to sell the scrap. Police also charged Mayfield with possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said they are not suspects in the vending machine theft.

Six arrested for retail theft: Six people face retail theft and conspiracy charges after Scott police said they stole $1,500 worth of merchandise on Oct. 13. Police said they stopped a car on Washington Avenue and were able to return the merchandise. Police said they charged Shaneka Robinson, 19, of Carnegie,  Brian Gray, 19, of Greenfield, Ronika Harris, 25, of Pittsburgh, Alysha Bowman, 20, of Pittsburgh, Wanda Humphries, 18, of Pittsburgh, and Cory Foster-Harris, 21, of Pittsburgh. Robinson was taken to Allegheny County Jail on felony charges, police said.

Woman allegedly steals from Walmart twice in three days: Scott Township police said a Brookline woman stole $300 worth of clothes from Walmart, and she returned to the store two days later to steal more merchandise. Police said Roberta Deary, 21, stole $300 of clothing from the store on Oct. 9 before returning Oct. 11 to steal numerous DVDs. Police said she fled the scene in her car, but was identified. Deary is charged with two counts of retail theft and reckless endangerment.

Man allegedly left child along in car: Jason Margolis, 42, of Mt. Lebanon, was charge with endangering the welfare of a child after Scott police said he left a 3-year-old child unattended in his car while at Lowe’s on Oct. 6.

Traffic stop leads to drug charges: Scott Township police said they charged Nancy Checketts, 58, of Imperial, with marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop on Chatham Park Drive on Oct. 9.

Public drunkenness arrest: James Reed, 26, of Crafton, was charged with public drunkenness after Scott police said they found him in the 600 block of Bell Avenue on Oct. 9

Tools stolen: Tools were stolen from a construction trailer in the 200 block of Puritan Road on Oct. 10, Scott police said.

Purses stolen from store: Scott Township police said they are investigating the theft of purses from Marshall’s department store on Oct. 10.
