This Week the Busiest for Destinta

Destinta Theatres provides additional staff to accommodate the holiday rush

With family and friends visiting for the holidays and the kids home from school, this week is the perfect time to go to the movies. And it seems everyone has the same idea.

"It's our busiest week of the year," said Paul Throm, manager of Destinta Theatres in Collier Township.

To accommodate the increase in crowds, Destinta adds extra staff, many of whom are college and high school students on break from school. Destinta also has extra showings this week with start times running from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily.

With 20 screens and 21 different movies to choose from, there's definitely something for everyone.

The Pendleton Family split up to take their granddaughter and grandson to different movies on Monday. Mrs. Pendleton and her granddaughter saw "Tangled" while Mr. Pendleton took his grandson and a friend to see "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader". All were happy with their choices.

"(Voyage of the Dawn Treader) was the best one yet," 11-year-old Jared Haigis exclaimed.

They said that Destinta is their favorite theater because of the large variety of movies and available showings. Destinta also features stadium seating, digital sound and has an arcade for children if they have to wait.

Katie Booher and Eden Marshall, both of Bridgeville, were waiting in the lobby for a few family members before entering the theaters to watch "Tron: Legacy" and "True Grit".

The most popular movies are shown 10 or more times per day and "Tron" and "Yogi Bear" both have additional 3D showings. With such a large number of screens and staggered start times, there are rarely long lines.

"There's a lot of good movies out now," Throm said. "But I'd say the real sleeper is 'The King's Speech.'"

With seven Golden Globe nominations, "The King's Speech" is based on the true story of King George VI, played by Colin Firth, and his quest to find his voice with an eccentric speech therapist played by Geoffrey Rush.

Seeing a movie in a theater is always a treat for our family, and we made sure to take advantage of our local theater this week during the holiday lull.
