State Police Search for Missing Inmate

State police said a halfway house inmate convicted of aggravated assault escaped when he claimed to be going to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment.

Pennsylvania State Police said a man serving time for aggravated assault checked himself out of a Pittsburgh hospital to escape custody.

Kenneth Gray, 24, of Pittsburgh, was serving a sentence at the Pittsburgh-based Renewal Corrections Center when he was taken to an unspecified UPMC hospital for medical treatment, said state police spokeswoman Trooper Robin Mungo.

Mungo said Gray signed himself out of the hospital and is now considered missing. Those with information on his whereabouts are asked to contact authorities at 412.787.2000.

Gray is described as a black male standing 5-feet, 8-inches and weighing 160 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes, according to police.
