A utility pole that snapped in half when a pick-up truck crashed into it last year near Raceway Plaza will finally be soon.
The pole located on Route 50 across from the former Damon’s restaurant in Collier Township has been stabilized at the base by large, wooden splints since the crash.
But the pole has been leaning slightly ever since the driver, who was seriously injured in the crash, plowed into it while coming home from work on Dec. 10.
Some emergency responders expressed concern about its stability and thought it should be replaced.
Collier Township police sent Duquesne Light a crash report with information about damage to the pole, but didn’t know when additional repairs would be made to the wooden beam.
Duquesne Light spokesman Joe Vallarian said the pole is stable and would be replaced “soon.”
“It is safe,” Vallarian wrote in an email to Chartiers Valley Patch. “But yes, we will be replacing (it) soon.”
He would not give a timeline on when it will be replaced.
