Presto-Sygan Road in South Fayette Reopening
Presto-Sygan Road will finally reopen next week after heavy rain washed away part of the roadway in early 2011.
Presto-Sygan Road, which was partially washed away by heavy rains in early 2011, is expected to fully reopen next week.
The road in South Fayette has been shut down periodically for the past year as construction workers rebuilt the hillside, retaining walls and roadway.
PennDOT announced that it plans to open the two-lane road as early as Monday–a full month earlier than expected–providing relief to motorists who regularly use it as a shortcut around Bridgeville. Presto-Sygan Road is a major cut through artery that connects Millers Run Road to Thoms Run Road.
After flooding washed out the hillside below the roadway in spring 2011, PennDOT installed stop signs and allowed one alternating lane of traffic. That prompted periodic delays during peak driving times.
The roadway is now being repaved and will be restored to two lanes of traffic.
