Miracle League Now Playing Ball
Former MLB All-Star Sean Casey and Pirates Charities bring baseball to children with special needs.
On Saturday, May 26, Casey’s Clubhouse and the Pirates Charities hosted opening day festivities and the inaugural games played at the Pirates Charities Miracle League Field of the South Hills.
Sean and Mandi Casey of Upper St. Clair founded Casey’s Clubhouse in the summer of 2010 with the goal of building a Miracle League Field for children with special needs in the South Hills of Pittsburgh.
With the help of Pirates Charities, the organization raised the more than $1 million needed for the construction of a custom-designed, rubberized field that will allow children of all abilities to play baseball. In addition to the field, the complex features wheelchair accessible dugouts, restrooms and a specially designed playground for the entire community to enjoy.
The field is located in Boyce Mayview Park next to Upper St. Clair's Community and Recreation Center.
In addition, Sean Casey will be featured at the Washington Wild Things game on Friday, May 25, as part of Legends Week. Casey will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and sign autographs. The game will begin at 7:05 p.m. and fireworks are planned after the game.
