Pipeline Blowout Damages Homes

Watch this unbelievable video of a ruptured water pipeline on Carothers Avenue in Scott Township that flooded two homes Tuesday night.

A ruptured water pipeline on Carothers Avenue in Scott Township broke windows and flooded two homes Tuesday night.

The major pipeline between Magazine Street and the Glendale Bridge happened around 5:15 p.m. and caused major traffic delays and loss of water service to nearby homes.

Rocks and gravel from the rupture went through one window and the water sprayed toward two homes. It eventually flooded the lower levels of the homes with about four inches of water.

A video posted onto Chartiers Valley Patch by a reader showed the water rocketing out beneath the pavement and at two houses across the street.

Glendale firefighters, whose station is just a few hundred feet from the break, were immediately on scene with vehicles to detour traffic and pump water from the homes.

Water to the area eventually was shut off after the break.

The road was closed until 2 a.m. Wednesday while water crews made repairs.
