Heidelberg's first ever fishing contest along Chartiers Creek was a splashing success.

More than 30 kids and 40 parents participated in the Fishing Derby on Saturday and caught plenty of catfish, bass, sunfish and crappy bass.

Prizes were awarded to four winners and many others received gifts for the tournament. The borough’s police department, volunteer firefighters and local government officials organized the contest on the banks of the creek that surrounds Heidelberg.

“Everyone was a winner, everyone had fun,” Heidelberg police Chief Vernon Barkley said. “Tons of prizes, lots of food and everyone had a great time. Really nice.”

Borough officials took plenty of photos of the event. We’ve selected a few from Heidelberg’s website and posted them with this story. Click here to see all of the photos.

If you took any photos of your son or daughter fishing, we’d love for you to upload them here. Just click the “Upload Photos” tab at the top and bottom of the story and pull the pictures right out of your computer or camera. We’ll feature different photos on The Patch throughout the day!
