This brindle beauty is Carmen!
In addition to her good looks, Carmen has a playful and affectionate personality. She is a little over 2 years old and weighs about 60 pounds.
She had been adopted from our shelter when she was a pup. Now, she finds herself looking for a new home. She's been a little lonely in the shelter and would love for more people to come in, say hi and maybe even take her home.
Carmen walks nicely on a leash, and definitely shows signs of being house-trained.
She also loves chasing balls. Carmen really deserves to find her "forever home" this time around.
If you'd like to find out more about her, please contact her volunteer friend, Barb, at bcolker@comcast.net. Carmen's adoption fee is $115.
Come to the Animal Rescue League at 6620 Hamilton Ave. in East Liberty or call 412-661-6452 to meet any dozens of dogs and scores of cats. The shelter is open for adoptions Tuesday through Friday 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday through Monday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why so expensive? People go to shelters to get an inexpensive dog. Not a designer dog or a pedigreed one. Most people can't afford your prices. There is a recession and people are out of work but they still make good pet parents.. Think about it. Would you rather euthenize or give it to someone who will love them but don't have that kind of money.. Reminds me of adoption of children in this country. They say they want homes for them but they make it so difficult to do..

The adoption donation includes shots, rabies, microchipping, neutering and a collar. It's also considered a donation to keep the shelter operating. I paid $95 for my dog at the ARL and he was well worth the price, especially since puppies from a breeder run well above $500 and don't include any shots/altering.

But doesn't my comment make sense? What are poor people to do? I just feel bad for them. My dog cost me $200 at the SPCA..... I didn't know she would be that expensive since she was only in the shelter for one night.I got to the counter with her and they told me the price. She was already spayed and had all her shots by her owner that couldn't keep her. I don't mind how much they cost, it is the less fortunate I am thinking of..I was a poor kid and remember going to the shelter for our dogs and they were glad we could give them a home and love rather than kill them..

I see what you're saying, although $200 seems very high. The ARL runs specials during the year and also has different prices for dogs. I think it's $60 for dogs 2 years and older, so there are options for some families.

That is good to know... thanks
This dog was only 6 months old and after I walked her and held her and she licked my face there was no way I could NOT take her no matter the cost. I fell in love with her but never expected to pay that much. I would feel sorry for the person and the dog if they had to put her back in her kennel and go home alone....
