A new bakery has moved into the former Cupcake N’At location in Bridgeville.

Zach and Tracy Kuhn opened the Batter & Dough Baking Company earlier this month and are whipping up biscotti, cupcakes, pies, brittles, barks, caramel apples and more sweets.

The couple from Washington spent years making homemade biscotti for Christmas, and soon began baking treats for friends or selling them at festivals.

The empty storefront on Station Street with all the kitchen equipment already included helped make their dream of owning a business come true.

“We got so busy, we started doing weddings and showers and started looking for places to open,” Zach Kuhn said. “It was one of those things where everything fell into place.”

Zach, a former foreman for a longwall mine in Waynesburg, was “ready for a change” and wanted to open a small business, just like many of his relatives have done. He makes the candies and popcorn while Tracy “fine tunes” the baked goodies.

“It’s honesty the first time I’ve enjoyed coming to work in seven years. It’s a lot of work, but it’s so much more worthwhile,” Zach said. “Hopefully I’ll have something to pass down to my kids.”

The bakery will have a grand opening at 10 a.m. Saturday with free samples, coffee, tea and door prizes.

Orders can be placed by calling 724- 319-7445 or online at www.batter-and-dough.com.  Orders can be shipping to customers across the country.

“It’s been all positive,” Zach Kuhn said. “Everyone in the community has been very supportive. Everyone who tastes our product loves it. We encourage people to take samples.”

Let's hope it lasts longer than the cupcake place! I still cannot figure out why the cupcake place went out of business. I thought it was pretty busy there. Does anyone know? This new place sounds good. I will definitely give it a try. The biscotti does look good.
