Murphy Appointed Chairman of a U.S. House Energy & Commerce Subcommittee
The Republican congressman from Upper St. Clair was appointed to head the powerful subcommittee.
Tim Murphy has been appointed as the chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee of the U.S. House of Representatives' Energy & Commerce Committee.
"I'm honored to serve as Subcommittee Chairman under the skilled and accomplished leadership of Chairman Fred Upton," said Rep. Murphy, a Republican whose 18th Congressional District includes all of Whitehall Borough, in a news release. "The Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee serves a critical role in conducting investigations and in federal government oversight.
"I join Chairman Upton in extending my sincere appreciation to Congressman Cliff Stearns for his exceptional leadership of this panel during the 112th Congress, and I look forward to continuing our efforts to make government more efficient, effective and responsive to the American people."
Appointed to serve as a member of the House Energy & Commerce Committee in 2005, Murphy has served as the vice chair of its Environment and the Economy Subcommittee as well as its Health Subcommittee.
In early November, Whitehall residents helped to elect Murphy to his sixth term in Congress.
