MedExpress Replacing Old Burger King

Demolition crews quickly razed the former Burger King fast food restaurant in South Fayette to make way for a MedExpress Urgent Care medical center.

Crews began demolishing the old fast food restaurant along Washington Pike on July 16 and removed the debris in a matter of days.

South Fayette Township officials said the company is now moving fast to prepare the site to begin building the 5,722-square-foot medical facility, which is twice as large as the fast food restaurant.

“I expect it to move quickly because they hope to be open by the end of the year,” township engineer Mike Benton said of the construction timeline. “They’re not messing around.”

Benton said there will only be minor tweaks to the location’s entrance off Washington Pike, and there will continue to be connections with the neighboring businesses.

The township formally approved the new business in May. The location had remained vacant since late 2010 when the Burger King closed its doors.

MedExpress Urgent Care officials could not be reached for comment to discuss the construction timeline or opening date.
