Giant Eagle Plans Expansion at Virginia Manor Shops
Grocery store expansion will push Hollywood Tans to Collier Town Square.
Giant Eagle’s expansions plans in the Virginia Manor shopping center is leading to growth in Collier Town Square.
As Giant Eagle prepares to add 6,000 square feet to its Mt. Lebanon location on Cochran Road, Starbucks will be forced to move a few doors down to the former Hollywood Tans suite. Meanwhile, the tanning salon will reopen Sept. 1 in Collier Town Square.
“The timeline is still being finalized, but we hope to have the work complete by late 2012,” said Dick Roberts, a spokesman for Giant Eagle.
While it will not become another Market District, several departments of the store will be expanded, including produce, meats, seafood, prepared foods, health and wellness, and the pharmacy.
“It’s still fairly early in the process, but we think customers will be very pleased,” he said.
Those plans have already caused Hollywood Tans to close its doors in the shopping center. Customers at that branch are now being served at locations in Caste Village and Robinson. All three franchises are owned by Lynne Tocchet, who could not be reached for comment.
Store employees said Tocchet is using the opportunity to relocate to Collier Town Square, where she also plans to open a cigar bar next door to the tanning salon, breathing life into some of the empty storefronts next to the Pittsburgh Bottleshop Cafe.
The new Hollywood Tans there will have upgraded equipment and décor. It was originally scheduled to open Aug. 1, but a memo at the Robinson location revealed that the plans have been pushed back until September.
