It’s looks like the southbound lanes are finally moving again after this morning’s crash on I-79 near Southpointe.

This happened right when I was driving by. The motorist was traveling northbound, must have gone off the highway into the media, flipped several times and landed in the northbound lanes. I wasn't able to stop safely but called 911 and I pray he or she is okay.

This is crazy! Erin from the Dormont-Brookline Patch pointed me here via Twitter when I was inquiring about another accident nearby. I did see the overturned truck on I-79, I was rolling through after 6:00am.
The one I was wondering about was one that occured on Washington Pike. As I was going down Washington Pike about to turn on to 79 to go South, I came upon a Jeep (or other SUV) that was on its side in the middle of the lanes on the other side of the light... and an older car, maybe a Cavalier or Sunfire... dark blue, sitting in the oncoming lanes facing the wrong way.
I was wondering if someone was T-boned, blew the light, or popped over a median. Looked pretty serious, there was an ambulance, cop car, & firetruck all there.
It looks like there were 3 accidents in the area this morning!

There apparently was also a pick-up truck rollover crash on I-79 in the southbound lanes near the Kirwan Heights exit before 90 minutes before the Southpointe crash. I have no more details on that crash. Do you know where on Washington Pike that other accident happened?

Major accident reported on I-79 south near the Marianna exit. All southbound lanes are closed.

Hi Mike, the rollover I saw was the truck... A white work truck on I-79. The other accident I saw was at the light for the on-ramp to 79 in Heidelberg. (Maybe that's Collier Twp.?)

Sounds like yesterday's commute was somehow more eventful than today's!

Sounds like the Wash Pike crash happened in Collier. They usually release their police blotter information on Monday, so I'll make sure to ask them about that crash when I call next week.

Anybody get an update on the I-79 crash at Southpointe yesterday?
