PennDOT plans to close Prestley Road near Presto for months while construction crews rebuild the bridge carrying traffic over Chartiers Creek.
The work to repair the bridge will begin March 9 and is expected to continue through mid-October. The work will replace the bridge deck, install new bearings and make other roadway improvements.
No thru-traffic will be permitted from Route 50 in Bridgeville to Thoms Run Road in Presto. However, PennDOT officials announced they will install temporary traffic signals between Journey Church and the intersection with Thoms Run Road.
The alternating lanes will allow residents, business customers and churchgoers to access the area.
Detour signs will be posted to guide motorists around the area. PennDOT is suggesting drivers take Route 50 to Millers Run Road, turning right onto Presto-Sygan Road and right again onto Thoms Run Road.
PennDOT estimates that nearly 6,100 vehicles use Prestley Road in that area each day. This work is part of a $1.6 million contract that also included separate construction projects on Presto-Sygan Road last year.

Awesome, our neighborhood will get a break from all the Nevillewood and South Fayette residents that use our neighborhood as their shortcut at 50 mph on a residential street with children.

Will this effect the bus routes coming from CV schools? If they normally travel Thoms Run to Prestley to come down into Bville?

It may have an impact on our bus routes within that area. We have contacted PennDot to see if they can accommodate us going through this area however, PennDot has not yet addressed our concerns as of this morning (Feb. 27).

We heard back from PennDot this afternoon (Feb. 28). The decided the road will be open to Chartiers Valley school buses only during construction.
