Construction Closing Major Road ... Again

Crews just reopened this major road, but will have to close it again Monday for another project.

Presto-Sygan Road, which reopened earlier this week after being closed for months for reconstruction, is closing again as PennDOT rebuilds another bridge next to Thoms Run Road.

Crews on Monday will close Presto-Sygan to reconstruct the bridge next to Thoms Run Road that connects South Fayette and Collier townships.

The work will replace the bridge and improve the drainage. PennDOT expects the work will be finished by late November.

scheduled the new reconstruction project immediately after the previous one because workers were concerned of businesses, recreation fields and homes in Newbury would be practically marooned.

“Closing both ends of the road at the same time would have been too much of an impact on the homes and businesses in that area,” PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi said.

This project is part of a $1.6 million contract that also includes replacing the bridge that carries Prestley Road over Chartiers Creek. That work will occur next year and finish in fall 2013.
