Colts Roll Over Belle Vernon
Wayne Capers throws two touchdowns and runs for two more scores in the 36-10 victory.
Chartiers Valley quarterback Wayne Capers scored two touchdowns on the ground and threw for another two scores Friday night to lead the Colts to a 36-10 victory over Belle Vernon.
Capers got the Colts on the board early with a big play when he faked a handoff, took the ball to the right side and ran 47 yards for the touchdown 2:23 into the first quarter.
The Leopards (2-3, 2-1) responded with a field goal, and a made a big fourth down stop against the Colts in the red zone. However, a fumbled snap by Belle Vernon gave the Colts the ball at the 12.
Four plays later, Capers plowed the ball into the endzone from the goal line. A fake extra point gave the Colts a 15-3 lead in the second quarter. Belle Vernon pulled close on a 40-yard touchdown pass, but were never closer than 15-10 halfway through the second.
The Colt (4-1, 3-0) used another Leopard turnover and turned it into a touchdown as Capers connected with Taran Sifontes-Lavine.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, Zach Chapman caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from the senior quarterback finished the scoring. Joe Ragni finished the scoring with a 6-yard touchdown run.
Capers threw for 170 yards and ran for another 59.
The Colts continue conference play against Thomas Jefferson next week.
