Collier's Little League Team Plays on ESPN

Collier Township’s youth baseball team is just two wins away from the Little League World Series in Williamsport.

The Little League team will play their regional semi-final game at 11 a.m. Friday, which will be televised live on ESPN.

The team has been in Bristol, CT, for the past week and went 2-2 in pool play. They now will play their semi-final regional game against New Jersey, which beat them 4-3 last Saturday.

Steve Alauzen, a coach on the team, said they’re excited about the opportunity Friday morning. He thinks they’ll hit better than they did last weekend against New Jersey.

“They’re really excited,” Alauzen said. “They had interviews (Thursday) with the ESPN people. They’re all fired up. It’s been wild.”

Alauzen said the crowds have increased with each game. He expects a big group of parents for Friday’s game.

If Collier wins Friday and then again in the championship game on Sunday, they’ll be put on a bus Monday morning and sent to Williamsport for the Little League World Series.

“The more we win, the more and more people are coming up,” he said. “Everyone’s into it. The parents, kids and coaches, they couldn’t be happier.”

The team has won the section, district and state championships.

UPDATE: Collier Township lost 9-4 to New Jersey in the semi-final regional round Friday. Look for a full story Saturday morning.

Since not everyone has cable or access to a television, would anyone be interested in posting updates throughout the game?

Really? The President of the League kicks the guy who got them there off the team? Sounds like something that would happen in our Little League! Why would LL International allow that? Very Classless move.

After the top of the fifth, Collier has to get some runs back. 8-5. Collier ended the inning by tagging a guy out who was trying to take advantage of the wild pitch.

Sad to see these local boys fall just short, but hopefully they had fun on their way and made lots of memories.
