Collier Police Chief Expects ‘Normal Day’ at CV High School on Friday

Police Chief Tom Devin insisted parents should not be afraid to send their children to Chartiers Valley High School despite threatening rumors that are spreading at school. Will you send your child to school Friday?

Collier police Chief Tom Devin said they’re continuing to investigate rumors of violence at Chartiers Valley High School on Friday, but insisted parents should not be afraid to send their children to school.

“We’re taking it as a legitimate threat and we’ll be acting on it that way,” Devin said. “But I would send my kids to school. I don’t see any reason not to send them from what I’ve hearing.”

He said investigators are following other leads with more students apparently spreading rumors through Facebook, text messages and email. However, he said they have found no credible threats and believe students may have “made it up as a joke or a way to get out of school.”

“Looking at the scheme of things and the information we’re getting, it’s looking like it’s something kids are making up,” Devin said. “I’m looking at Friday as a normal day of school. But we are going to be up there, we’ll have a car up there and we’ll have people up there. That’s just like we’ve been doing lately.”

The high school co-principals posted a letter on the school district’s website Tuesday making parents aware of rumors about an “act of violence at the high school” on Friday. However, they said Collier police and school administrators found the rumors to be “unsubstantiated.”

Still, that created unease with parents who posted comments on the Chartiers Valley Patch Facebook page and an article published on Tuesday about the situation. Some complained the rumors were not being taken seriously while others said they might keep their kids out of school.

Devin dismissed that notion and said they’ll file charges against any student who may have initiated the rumors or spread them with malicious intent.

I didn't send my son. Not worth the chance. I could never servive something happening to my kids. He stayed home and safe. If they would have taken the threat more seriously instead of "just rumors" it would have been better. When they asked the kid if he had a plan etc. Of course he's going to say NO. Come on people!! Time to get your heads out of your a** and take a stand against this crap.

Sherry they took the threat seriouslyfrom what Ive read. What did you want armed SWAT guys with machine guns in every classroom and on every corner. They did what they needed to do and told you what you needed to know, which is nowhere close to everything they know I assure you. You think the police interview someone and they dont suspect almost everyone is lying?? Police do this for a living and interview and talk to people almost everyday, alot are trained in interview and interrogation. You want people to take their head from their A**??? Do you even know any police officers??? Spent time to actually talk to them???? My guess is no. But run your mouth about them not doing enough when you have no idea what they did or should have done in the first place. You kept your kid home good for you that is your choice but don't publically bash that of which you have no clue. The police will NEVER tell the public everything they have or are doing on any case and for good reason and frankly Sherry you are a prime example of one of the reasons. Also if you dont know what that reason is you are more of an idiot than I already think you are. But regardless of how you think they will be there any time of the day or night and put their lives on the line for you and your family and frankly they will be the ones taking "a stand against this crap" while you sit cozy in your home. So maybe look in the mirror and see whos head needs removed from whos posterior.

I was referring to the school not the police. Where in my comment did I say "police?" I fully respect the work of all of our police and appreciate what they do for me and my family. I have police in my family. Not sure what your rant to me was all about. I guess I should have been more specific.. Have a wonderful New Year!

THE POLICE ARE IN A NO WIN SITUATION. GET TO FIRED UP AND THEY ARE LOOKING FOR TROUBLE. NOT CARING ENOUGH AND THEY DO NOT CARE. IT IS A NO WIN SITUATION FOR THE POLICE.
