Church Kicks Off Lutheran Schools Week

Zion Lutheran Church in South Fayette has a variety of events planned.

This week will bring a spotlight to Lutheran schools, across the country and one local church preschool is planning a variety of events to bring parents and their students together.

The Zion Lutheran Church preschool in South Fayette Township kicked off the week’s events Monday and Tuesday with a pajama party that encouraged kids to wear their sleepwear to school and bring pillows and stuffed animals.

But it wasn’t all fun and games for students, according to school Director Carol Davis.

The preschoolers’ fathers are invited to come to the school Wednesday and Thursday mornings for “Dads and Doughnuts” that allows the children to show what their school days are like. The breakfast events will also coincide with a sports theme where the children - ranging in age 2 to 4 - can wear sporting apparel while playing games.

“It’s more of a communication between the dads and the school and the children,” Davis said. “It’s a good thing. It really does make a difference. The dads really appreciate the school more.”

The week ends with “Funny Friday” where the kids can wear mismatched clothes and enjoy a whacky day.

However, Davis said the 77 students in six classes at the preschool are “still using the Christian theme through what we do.”

“That is evident in what they do, but it is also a fun thing,” she said. “The kids really enjoy it.”
