Bridgeville approved a contract to pave Baldwin Street and also is beginning to solicit bids for plans to repave Bower Hill Road.

Borough Council voted Monday night to spend $76,300 for Youngblood Paving to begin work on Baldwin Street.

The borough also plans to pave Bower Hill Road from McLaughlin Run Road to Darby Way. Borough Manager Lori Collins said that project could cost around $200,000.

Sidewalks along the Bower Hill will also be replaced between McLaughin Run and Union Street.

Borough Council also approved a plan for the sanitary sewer point repair project with a bid of $364,223 from Insight Pipe Contracting.

I believe the Baldwin Street repave is coming from the general fund or capital improvements fund, so that's borough tax money. The borough manager told me that the Bower Hill repave will come from the state's liquid fuel tax, which is part of the gasoline tax that's distributed to municipalities by the amount of roads they have.

Bower Hill Road, approximately three and one half miles long is Allegheny County maintained for all but the approximately one half mile from McLaughlin Run Rd to Washington Ave (state route 50). Allegheny County pays for the maintenance through the more affluent communities of Mt. Lebanon, Scott Twp, and Upper St.Clair Twp. The county should be maintaining the entire length of Bower Hill Road and not putting the burden on the Bridgeville tax payers, for the last half mile.
